Kingsley Academy Curriculum Statements

Academy Intent

We intend, through an attractive curriculum offer, to improve the engagement and motivation of our learners.  To get learners reengaged with learning through providing vocational experiences that will empower them to want to progress and in turn, give them direction to explore within their future educational choices.

Staff will role model positive behaviour and safe working practices within their vocational context as well as developing and enriching experiences with their personal, social and health education.  Unwanted behaviour will be challenged and discussed to develop the learners understanding of why their behaviour is not appropriate and to also safeguard other learners.

Our aim is for our learners to be reintegrated back in to mainstream education having gained qualifications, developed a positive mindset as well as having developed behaviour management strategies that will support them when or if they face challenges or adversity.

Academy Implementation

Our curriculum design is very specific to the needs of our learners.  They come to us with a pre-existing interest in one or more of the curriculum areas we offer.  Therefore, thar interest will enhance their curiosity and drive to succeed.  Along with the direction of the professional skilled tutor who has done the job will also be a motivator.

As the courses are practical within their implementation, this will be different from what they are currently used to.  The aim is to embed English and maths skills into the vocational content to make them more relatable for the students to be able to apply.

Lessons will be in 45-minute blocks to ensure students are engaged and motivated throughout the sessions.  Learning will be broken down into small chucks and scaffolded with regular recaps as the curriculum progresses.

Academy Impact

Learners will have successfully completed qualifications that will enhance their future progression and life changes.  Due to the evolution within the academy’s demographic, the skills we teach will set them up for further learning that will enhance their job opportunities.

The learners will be successfully integrated back into their mainstream setting or engage in further studies with our academy.

Behaviour will be improved, and they will have developed a culture of respect, friendship, aspirations, trust and empathy.

Some learners may also leave us and gain places on college course or apprenticeships within the vocational area they have studied with us.
